Tips For Saving Money on Groceries

Posted by admin on Sep 30, 2009

One of the best tips for saving money on groceries is to buy name brand products. If you don’t believe me, you’re not alone! (But trust me, it is true! Keep reading to find out why!)

When it comes to saving money on groceries, people often argue that you should simply purchase generic, store brand products since name brand products are always higher priced.

In terms of the normal shelf price, this is absolutely true. However, there are many ways and times that it is actually cheaper to buy name brand products rather than generic brands.

Here are some ways and reasons why purchasing name brand products at the grocery store is cheaper than purchasing generic, store brand items at the grocery store.

1. First of all, it is best to keep an eye on the sales at the more expensive grocery stores. More expensive chains can actually offer better deals when they do decide to put things on sale, so it’s important to focus on name brand items at more expensive stores rather than at grocery outlets.

2. As I alluded to in the first point, the key is to purchase the items when they are on a super sale and even better to get them on sale, with a coupon. This is where the real savings come in with purchasing name brand items rather than generics. I’ve gotten many, many name brand items for free, or for just a few cents. In contrast, I’ve never gotten a generic item free!

3. You can make an even bigger killing purchasing name brand items rather than generics if you shop at a grocery store that doubles or even triples coupons. This is where you savings with name brand items really adds up.

4. A very important key with making saving money on name brand grocery items is to make a point of purchasing only loss leaders — the items that the grocery store has specifically advertised at rock bottom prices in order to entice people to shop. These are called “loss leaders” because they are sold below cost and are used to simply lure people in, with the hopes that you’ll buy plenty of high priced items while there.

Stick to your list and purchase only items that are being sold super cheap and combine those sales with coupons, and you’ll end up making a killing on name brand groceries.

I wish you the best on your quest to save money on groceries!

What is the official title of a "free sample distributor"?

Posted by admin on Sep 30, 2009

I am a "free sample lady" but I’m not actually sure what my official title would be (to put on my resume and such). I’m not an employee of any of the grocery stores that I give free samples to, but rather an independent company. What is the title of a "free sample distributor"?

Unrecompensed exemplification merchandiser.

Where To Get Deals On Makeup

Posted by admin on Sep 29, 2009

If you love to wear makeup but hate to pay full price for your lipstick, mascara, compact, or blusher, not to worry. There are plenty of ways for the frugal shopper to enhance her loveliness without breaking the bank. Check out these ideas for finding low-cost makeup:

Use Coupons!

Plenty of makeup manufacturers offer great rebates and coupons. In fact, if you look through your department, pharmacy, and grocery store circulars each week to see what’s on sale, you may actually be able to snag a great makeup deal. Consider this – if a concealer is typically $8, but is on sale for $6 and you have a coupon to save you $2, you’ll only pay half (or $4).

Check Out Clearance Aisles

Most stores have an aisle or two devoted to the items that haven’t sold well, and often those items include makeup. And don’t worry – it’s not all green eyeshadow and black nail polish. You can absolutely find some top-quality makeup in shades and colors you’ll love. And some clearances are up to 90% off. Imagine buying a product that retails for $10 at a cost of $1! Wow!

Host a Party

Have a friend who sells makeup as a “side” business? Why not host a party for her? Mary Kay, Avon, and other makeup sales reps all love to reward the hostess with free gifts and “chits” for makeup purchases. You’ll be able to use name-brand merchandise without having to spend much (if anything) at all.

Check Out Online Stores

There are some online merchants who sell top-end makeup for very little. First, see what you can find on the popular auction sites; next, type “cheap makeup” into your search engine. Again, you’ll never know what’s out there for a few bucks until you dig around! And it’s worth the effort to make an awesome makeup find!

Look for Samples

At many high-end department stores, you can snag great makeup deals just by asking. As you peruse the makeup kiosks (such as Estee Lauder and Revlon), casually ask the sales staff if they have any makeup samples you could try. Often, the sample sizes are quite ample and may last for a while. It’s a terrific way to reward yourself with some exceptional makeup for virtually nothing (except the cost to get to the store!)

Haunt Yard Sales

Believe it or not, you can find makeup at yard and garage sales! The only thing you have to be concerned about is making sure any makeup you purchase from these places has never been opened. Otherwise, the makeup could be contaminated with bacteria which could make your face break out. Also, look for expiration dates; sometimes, makeup at yard sales has expired. (That’s why it’s there.) But don’t let this stop you – many a person has gotten rid of makeup she doesn’t care for (or was given as a gift), and it’ll be a reward for you!

By being a little innovative, you can find terrific ways to save on makeup.

Repairing Bad Credit – Fast and Free!

Posted by admin on Sep 29, 2009

Bad credit can happen to anyone. Especially in America where credit is used to purchase everything from groceries to gas, having bad credit can be isolating and humiliating. But any number of things can propel us toward bad credit.

Job loss, medical expenses, and family emergencies can all conspire to pile our debt higher and higher. With interest, late fees, and over-limit fees, debt can multiply at an astronomical rate in a matter of weeks. Once you’re in the hole, getting out can seem next to impossible.

Take Charge of Bad Debt

There are things you can do to begin take charge of your bad debt. First and foremost, get a realistic view on the damage. This means opening the bills that have piled up, unopened, and making a list of all the outstanding totals. It can be grim work, for sure, and is probably not on anybody’s “Top Ten List of Ways to Have Fun”! But being honest with yourself is the first step in taking control.

Once you’ve opened all those bills and documented the totals, contact one of the credit reporting agencies for a copy of your credit report. The three major credit-reporting bureaus – Experian, TransUnion, and Equifax – are required by law to give you a free copy of your credit report once a year. Try not to be discouraged by what you see. You’re on the path to making it right!

Help for Getting Out of Debt

Now that you have a better understanding of where you really stand, it’s time to get help. There are a lot of companies out there that offer “credit repair” services – for a fee. While it might be tempting to pay someone to make your financial difficulties disappear, these services can’t really solve your problems.

A good rule of thumb? That great old standby, “If it looks too good to be true, it probably is.” Most of the services out there that offer fee-based credit repair are more interested in separating you from your money than in separating you from your bad credit rating. The truth is, there’s no fast and easy way out. Repairing your credit will take time and effort.

But there is honest-to-goodness help available! There are many organizations that offer real credit counseling and assistance at no charge, or for a very minimal fee based on a sliding scale of what you can afford. These agencies will help you outline your fixed monthly expenses (such as rent or mortgage payments, insurance, etc.). They’ll even build in the extras that we all know are a part of life – things like gifts, clothing, and entertainment.

Once they’ve factored in the realities of day-to-day life, they’ll help you determine how much of your income is really left to pay off your debt. Depending on the situation, they can even contact your creditors to arrange for lower monthly payments, a temporary break from accruing interest, or a reduced pay-off. All of these things will bring you closer and closer to repairing your credit.

The good news is that it is possible to recover from bad credit. By confronting the situation honestly, and seeking credit counseling, you have taken the first step toward gaining control over your finances – and your life.
