which job to take?

Posted by admin on Feb 24, 2010

My husband has been offered two jobs in food sales. Here are the pros and cons of each.
Job 1 Pros: $500 a month for car allowance plus all gas paid for, credit for cell phone use, full health coverage, he’ll get to do some cooking still which he likes cause he is a chef now, lots of free food to take home and sample (so save on groceries), great company to learn from
Job 2 Pros: can do most work from home (which is also a con), higher base salary to start, comission on top of base, good benefits, no particular territory so he could sell to all his current connections
Job1 Cons: no commision, not sure if the pay increase each year is significant, away a few nights a week from sept-november
Job 2 Cons: After 2 years will work on 100% commision, working from home requires a lot of discipline, has been told from some sources that the company and its deliveries are not 100% reliable or on time which may affect his sales numbers

Just looking for some opinions!

I would have to say the first offer. The medical coverage is a huge plus, as coverage can cost over a thousand a month for a family.

I would personally go with option one because it’s more stable. My opinion. Good luck.

I would have some reservations about taking a job with a company that’s considered "not 100% reliable." Your deliveries are how you get your goods to your customer, in other words, that’s how you bring the money in. I would wonder how on top of the rest of the business they are.
